And, best of all, quilting is a project that is suitable for people of all levels, from beginners to experts.
The most important tool for quilting is the sewing machine. A quality sewing machine can make a big difference in the quality of your quilts. Look for a machine with an adjustable stitch length, tension control, and a reverse lever. You’ll also need to purchase the appropriate needles, bobbins, and other accessories.
The next tool you’ll need is a rotary cutter. This is essentially a circular blade that can quickly cut fabric into strips and shapes. The rotary cutter is essential for making precise cuts and is definitely worth the investment. It come in a variety of sizes - 45mm is a my favorite. You’ll also need a self healing cutting mat. This helps protect your cutting surface. A good cutting mat will last for years and is a great investment. You will also need a variety of Acrylic rulers - the most popular one is either a 6" x 12" or a 6" x 24" - when cutting fabric with a rotary cutter the blade glides against the ruler
ensuring accurate cuts. An iron is also essential for quilting. A good iron will help you press fabric pieces and seams, ensuring they lay flat and look perfect. You’ll also need marking tools. These include fabric markers, chalk, and pencils. Using the right marking tools will help you get precise measurements and will save you time when working with fabric pieces. Finally, you’ll need a few other essential supplies. A seam ripper, pins, scissors, tape measure and good quality thread are all important to help you construct your quilt.
